High-performance seed and grain
processing methods

FLANQUART implements several seed and grain processing methods to propose a wide range of products.

We offer a large variety of oilseeds, protein crops, cereals, dried fruits and nuts and spices. Our different seed and grain processing methods enable us to create more elaborate product versions to meet your requirements. Hulling, milling, crushing, toasting, paste formation, caramelisation and salting operations can be performed and combined. All these operations are performed at our site. This means we can multiply the options to provide you with THE solution that best suits your needs as a food manufacturer.

Upstream of our seed and grain processing methods

1 - Cultivation

Upstream of our seed and grain processing methods, our partnership with French producers means we can guarantee complete traceability. This involves tracking the history of the product, from its production in the field and storage, right through to delivery of the end product to your site.

2 - Acceptance and inspection

We have control of our products by knowing our supply chains and our producers. We inspect all products before they enter the factory and carry out checks at every step in the production process by:

  • Taking representative samples.
  • Testing moisture.
  • Checking compliance with food safety requirements.

3 - Cleaning - Sorting - Optical sorting

We receive some of our raw products directly from our partner producers.  Before storage, a first cleaning step is necessary to eliminate large impurities (foreign seeds and grains and straw). Thanks to three independent, dedicated stations, sorting of flax, millet and poppies is carried out as a continuous process.

A series of high-performance processes is implemented to obtain a product with a purity level of over 99.90%: grids with optimised dimensions depending on the batch, densimetric sorting, brushing, suction, magnets, optical sorting and metal detection, etc. The raw materials are then ready to enter the processing circuit.

4 - Hulling

The first raw seed and grain processing method is hulling, which is a complex process. This consists in removing the outer husk of the seed or grain to leave only the kernel. We hull millet in this way.

5 - Milling – Flour

We carry out grinding or milling operations. Using this seed and grain processing method, we obtain a flour of variable particle size.
We can offer flours with a low gluten content.

6 - Crushing – Cutting

Crushing is a seed and grain processing step that consists in cutting into small pieces. The seed and grain fragments obtained are usually known as “bits”.

We use this process to produce sunflower and pumpkin seed bits, as well as crushed cereals (wheat, barley, rye or oats).

7 - Pastes

A specific seed processing step is implemented to produce a seed paste, of variable smoothness depending on your requirements. High in unsaturated fatty acids, fibre and protein, seed pastes can be very easily emulsified and incorporated into numerous recipes.

The acquisition of an innovative production facility to develop the European oilseed sector dedicated to human nutrition is co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.

8 - Microbial decontamination – Toasting

To optimise the food safety quality of our products and meet our customers’ requirements in terms of microbiological quality, we have set up a seed and grain heat treatment line. This process reduces the microbiological load of the seeds and grains. This multipurpose process can also give colour and a toasted flavour thanks to a toasting phase.

9 - Mixing

Using a variety of raw materials – seeds and grains, fruits, spices and products derived from the different seed and grain processing methods (flakes, bits) – we can create all kinds of mixes.

We adapt to your needs. We can formulate mixes based on your specific requirements.

10 - Caramelisation – Salting

In addition to the different processes, most of our seeds and grains can be caramelised. We can also salt them. We can therefore propose a variety of versions for your recipes.

11 - Packaging

All our products resulting from the various seed and grain processing methods are stored in our bins or bagged. We propose a variety of packaging options:

Big-bags on request

  • Paper bags containing 5 to 25 kg

  • PE bags containing 500 g to 10 kg

  • Bags under nitrogen containing 10 and 20 kg

12 - In-process controls

Random controls are performed at the different stages of the seed, grain and derived products production process, including points such as:

  • Control of weight and labelling
  • Control of food safety elements (metal detection, sieving, etc.)
  • Traceability monitoring
  • Compliance with customer requirements

13 - Shipment – Inspection

To ensure total compliance of our products, both raw and resulting from our seed and grain processing methods, each shipment is subject to rigorous inspection. Labelling, compliance with customer requirements and palletisation are just some of the checks we carry out.

All FLANQUART’s seed and grain processing methods guarantee optimal food safety. The different processing steps can be used to offer you custom products.
